Ableman's Final Account tells the story of a man firmly lost in a hyper-real society. He's forgotten what he's meant to be doing at work and he can't get his hair to stay in place. A myriad of infomercials stream through his consciousness, is decapitation the answer? Perhaps he just needs to get away to Fiji for a week or two. If only he could just dissolve from this city...
"Well shot and conceived. Very clever, creative editing + art direction. The leading man is clearly very talented and inventive." - Ridley Scott
Ableman's Final Account was shot in Perth, Western Australia, in 2005.
It received a budget of around $22,000 from the Film & Television Institute of W.A. The eight days of shooting took the cast and crew from the pinnacles of W.A, to Perth's main city streets, into the studios of Murdoch University, up to high rise apartments, down to the squash courts of Mount Lawley, plus there were a couple of chaotic nights at the Woolworth's supermarket in Woodvale.
The post production of the film was an equally elaborate task and it was almost a year before it was completed. An incredible original score was composed and performed by Malcolm Clark, Lee Jones & Luke Steele and after two years the film was finally realised.
The narrative itself was a concoction of some of Christopher Trappe's notions on the workings of society, reading newspaper articles and various repressed emotions.
